OrmeE - the Observatory on Rights Management for eLearning in Europe -
is a new project financed by the European Commission in the framework
of eLearning programme.
The project started in January 2004 and will continue until December 2005.
What’s it for?
OrmeE will help to understand and evaluate how the EU Copyright Directive has been implemented in different European Member States, to suggest the best available applications in the eLearning environment, to identify the best technology and legal options and the existing services in Europe applied to rights management systems for eLearning objects.
Activities
- The analysis of the implementation of the EU Copyright Directive in all the European countries and possible consequences of different regulations in the educational content market.
- The study of DRM (Digital Rights Management) solutions addressed to eLearning environment with the aim of finding reliable solutions that allow content producers and eLearning providers to regulate the access to copyrighted content so to create a single European market although the resisting differences in legal regulation.
- The analysis of European best practises in PPPs (Public-Private Partnerships) in eLearning as far as the access to copyrighted content is concerned.
- The analysis of best practises in dealing with learning objects, taking into account the legal, economic and pedagogical aspects of the problem.
Project Partners
The Observatory is run by an international team of well known partners from the publishing and the university sector.
